Just came home and am settling down after watching the Darkest Hour….what a gripping, historic, terrifying, honorable, film. By the same token, it was full of whining, wimpy men who reminded me of so many I see in Washington today.
Churchill became a leader of men because he had no other choice. His objective was not to become a powerful politician, but to lead those in his country and in Europe through the grinding years of war. He abhorred the pettiness and the ‘holier than thou’ attitude of so many of his associates.
Instead of working with, they made folly of…..and chose time after time to point out what they thought were his shortcomings. He was old, he drank when he first awakened, he drank during meals, he was scary, he was not ‘all there’, he needed to be relieved of the post of Prime Minister, he cried, he would not negotiate with Hitler, etc, etc, etc.
And yet, in spite of his ‘bad habits’ and/or his inability to lead….he brought his country thru WWII, with England intact. and not a ‘state’ belonging to Hitler.
It seems history repeats itself with great men, good men, and ordinary men who become great and good. Politicians become so religious, so pious, so knowing when the new guys/gals on the block come in and cast the shadow of change in Washington or the status quo regardless of where it is.
I am ashamed of people who hold others to such a high standard of nothingness. Please do not confuse my opinion as not allowing one to have opinions and voice them freely. It is how they do it that makes me cry inside for those who are striving to make us better.
Maybe the call for unity is to ask the question ‘who said’ when it comes to statements made in and on all forms of media. I am not interested in ‘maybe this’ or ‘maybe that’ happened. I am interested in ‘who said ‘ this or that might or maybe happened. Media that used to tout (FOX) we report you decide have become the ‘what if’ and not found out ‘who said’. I am a FOX watcher, but now I see that most networks, including FOX, are acquiring some bad habits.
My opinion of the change in news is that the USA is chugging along better than anyone expected…the stock market is happy, companies are happy, employees will see more in their paychecks with the initial tax redo, and people are getting bonuses and raises and better benefit’
packages. Money is being spent, money is being saved, credit scores are becoming something to look at, and gas and oil production and prices are steady.
Even with the natural disasters this year, our country is looking up…..we want a better way to control our border, we want a plan on controlling illegal people from coming in, not to work, but to live off our benefit system. We want a better health program and, change has started. No, it’s not perfect, but be patient. We are happy to see change….we are happy that.
One cannot expect to get out of the gigantic hole our politicians have created in just a year, or two,or three. Sorry….the hole is that big. It takes communication, and quality in our men and women who we send to Washington….we are sorely lacking in both.
One more thing…..it has been said that our President used a 4 letter word in describing some of the countries where people want to leave and come to the United States…..He’s right….These countries are noted for poor governments who do not provide for their people, poor medical services, poor roads, impure water, poor vaccinations, poor civil rights, poor court systems, poor pay, and the fear of takeovers by militants. Yes, if I lived in and under those conditions, I would be doing whatever I could to leave. Was Haiti in great shape before the hurricane and the earthquakes…no, they were poor, had a government that did not care for them, and had no plan. Did Puerto Rico have a great country to live in prior to the hurricane…no, there was government debt, no work, bad food, medical, and water conditions….no wonder Puerto Ricans are willing to leave their beloved home, just to live with out fear. Let’s not ‘make believe’..everything is not rosy….it is time for a united WORLD effort to clean up, fix up, gear up, and make this this place nice for everyone, everywhere. ..later….
