IT’S VACATION TIME…..AGAIN

Tomorrow my sis and I are taking off for parts known and unknown……7 days of just hanging out and enjoying being together…two old ladies…reminds of a wonderful card….two old old ladies sitting on a park bench….one says to the other “is it butt naked or buck naked”?
love it!!

AGAPANTHUS (COM’IN & GO’IN)

Remember a few days ago when we were clipp’in and cutt’in and prepar’in? Well, it has all paid off.  I am such a happy girl and I think my agapanthus (don’t know what plural is) are happy too.  It was tedious for them and for me.  We spent many hours together in the sun grooming.  The days were beautiful and autumn and the plants felt good being given ‘breathing room’ for the first time in probably 4 years.  There were even some iris that were truly surprised to see the sun.

On Saturday, my ‘main man’ came with 3 others to begin the relocation program. The day was cool and sunny and the 4 began their tasks.  First they had to us a chain saw….yes I said a chain saw to get out the big clumps of agapanthus and check for the living and the dead.  New bulbs feed off old bulbs and so the deceased went in one pile and the newer family went in another.  They like to stay together and so their bulbs extend from one another and the roots wind around one another. Everyone is one big happy family, regardless of being dead or alive. (Makes one think that maybe we should do the same with our family…you know keep them around close instead of miles away in a cemetary….but that’s another story)  ANYHOW,…..the work was hard….(when one has to use a chain saw on bulbs…they’ve been close for a while).

Then, after choosing and separating, there came time for ‘placing’….The area chosen was in my back yard on a slope. There are about 6 trees on the slope and the men and I decided the agapanthus would look wonderful in between the trees, randomly spaced, in clumps.  That called for the chain again. Dang, I’m glad they brought that.  Shovels were used in the final digging, but the trust chain saw had to cut thru red apple ground cover and some dandy roots.  I knew immediately I had made the right decision not to do it myself.

Now I am good, I am strong, and I can do anything, but this —this chain saw/shovel, red apple, roots on a slope……not my idea of having fun. So the work continued and the holes were dug and the potting soil deposited and the agapanthus relocated.

At the end of a very long day for 4 people, it was almost complete. The sun, however, caused them to ‘call it a day’ and since they had to return to my town tomorrow, they decided to finish up then.  Bright and early (8AM is bright and early for me nowadays) they were here to finish. Sprinklers were checked for punctures, yard was cleaned up, and trash cans filled .  It was a success!!!  They were beautifully planted and spaced on my slope and I can hardly wait for the darlings to make themselves at home.   They can view their cousins from afar, across the flat part of the yard, and stretch their roots while basking in the morning sun.  The temps are to be in the 50’s and 80’s for the next few weeks and the sprinklers will bathe them at least 3 days a week.

Portions of their family tree will now be extended to the central part of my town and even to the town adjoining us…..they will live in a warmer area and probably bloom before their family here.  Some will even be heading to Nevada, to begin their part of the clan.   Ah, life is good in agapanthus land.

AMERICAN ‘EYE OPENERS’ FROM WSJ

WSJ is the ‘local paper’ for world business.  Its inside scoop opens up eyes and investigations to business world-wide.  It offers up, however, some strange  pieces of information in the Legal Notices section…..and if one begins to read this section, just once in a while, it becomes a riveting piece of news, not just a notice.

It begins by saying “The US Department of Justice, Federal  Bureau of Investigation(FBI) Washington,D.C gives notice that the following properties were seized for various federal forfeiture violations, which are mentioned below.

It goes on, saying “You may contest the seizure in US District Court by filing a claim of ownership, no later than 30 days after the date of the final publication of the notice of seizure, etc. etc……

The notice further states explanations of the items discussed,  such as CSA = The Controlled Substances Act, Title 21 U.S.C, Section 881 or MLC =  Money Laundering Control Act of 1986, Title 18, U.S.C. Section 981(a)(1)(A), and so on.  These definitions alone are alarming, however , the listings by state are beyond words, when it comes to us  the ” nice guys”.

Examples are not exact….numbers are mixed up and cases are changed around, however, it is the content that brings me to today’s writing.

And so it goes…..

Texas…..$46,770 currency, CSA, 7-27-11  John Doe, 1129 smith st.   along with$23,000 currency, CSA and a 2007 Chev Tahoe

Washington….$56,596, CSA 7/20/11 found in the following locations, kitchen cabinet next to narcotics, office closet on floor inside a shoe, computer bag in office closet, left pants pocket of……

Florida……$38,254 SUA 9-1-11 Sarasota, Miscellaneous silver and gold bars belonging to……          including 2 US Academy 100 oz silver bars, …  and …..; 2 US Ohio Precious Metals 100 oz silver bars, US Engelhard 100 oz silver bar, no……1 oz vienna philharmonic silver, 150 euros, , etc, etc.

Illinois……CSA 12 gauge shotgun, s/n……

South Carolina…..$144,861 SUA 7/19/11

Oregon……jewelry seized from……square wheat 10 kt white gold neck chain with a diamond and 10 kt white gold cross pendant, mens stainless steel Rolex Date Just watch………and so on and so on

I didn’t list all the money, cars, bank accounts, jewelry, and guns discussed today…….These samples came from a full page……in VERY VERY SMALL PRINT I might add, and should be a wake-up notice to each and every reader.

Maybe it is time to read the Legal Notices again……in the WSJ. Maybe it is time we thank the FBI, the DEA, ICE, Border Patrol, and Coast Guard as they keep watch 24/7 over our  neighborhoods, communities, & states;our land, and its borders.  Maybe it’s time we see that these men and women have the equipment, the money, and the backing to do their job, instead of having their hands tied by politicians who can’t find their way out of a paper bag unless a TV reporter is around.

Thank you ladies and gentlemen for watching over me and mine. I salute you and yours and thank you for your dedication.          later

ABUSED…….HERE AND THERE

Remember we’ve talked about abuse in a few blogs prior to today? Well, we did.

Anyhow, I see that in Kansas they don’t have enough time to take on the physical abuse of women for awhile….seems they just don’t have the money, or whatever.

My sister was physically and mentally abused for 20+ years……I have written about it but never published because they are ending up a nasty divorce and I do not want to provoke anything.  HOwever, in the next few weeks (into November) I will rethink, check on the status of the ‘leftovers’ in the divorce and I will write it for you to read and digest.

Be informed that my sister is no slouch…..she’s is not one of those poor, put down, and mentally impoverished women you think of as being ‘an abused wife’.

I say she ‘IS’ not but she was….and in such a subtle way. To meet her in public, to visit with her during dinner, to see her in action in a busy ER in a large city, saving, saving, saving…..you would never, I say, NEVER know. But when the day ended, and her work complete, she would go home broken, tearful, and terribly afraid of what was ahead for the evening.

There are nights when she and my niece would find themselves out on the street, having to, yet again, find a hotel.  There were nights when, after working 12 hours, she would be up til 4AM being screamed and yelled at…..a tactic often used by abusive men to help ‘their women’ understand that if they would just ‘do this’ or ‘do that’, the men would not lose their tempers.

There were nights when physical threats turned into the real thing….. and my grown niece was there to watch.

So when states seem to have problems covering phone calls from abused women, I take a stand, both in anger, and in the hope they acknowledge their ignorance of the terrors of  life.

As one can see by the terrible crime in Seal Beach, Ca. even a restraining order does nothing to keep a women safe.  Shame on those who seem to overlook lives coming so close to death.  Just one phone call may keep them alive…..or if the abuser knows, can kill them.

WAKE-UP!  There may be only minutes left for woman who desperately needs the siren to come down her street. She is counting on  her one chance….her phone call that may open the door to a more peaceful existance……The 911 call…the call to a friend or neighbor can be occurring at this moment.

PLEASE DON’T FORGET HER…….                                            later, with love

more…..rats, norwegian, that is

ah, the rat man cometh and me thinks the rat man thinks, he taketh away. I do enjoy Clarence….heck of a nice guy and he is doing is best, so I’m here to recommend him and have some fun too.

Some body and I mean ‘some body’ has been living, exercising, renting, or subletting an area of our attic for a few years now.  I think they are retired, maybe just passing thru from one neighborhood to the next. Who knows…

There are no little ‘bodies’ that I know of, and most of the time they are quiet tenants, however, lately all has not been well.  They have decided to scratch…either themselves, or a friend, or some wood, or insulation, I don’t know, but they are becoming too noisy for the neighborhood (my house).

Clarence came and set traps and has checked regularly for dead ‘bodies’, to no avail. He also plugged up areas where experienced rodents might want to get in.  We thought things were going extremely well, until about 3AM this AM.

First hubby woke up, then he paced, then kitty woke up, then he paced…he also had some crunchies, and then I woke up.  By then the activity in my bedroom was as busy as was whoever was in the attic.  We listened, we whispered, we listened, and then a decision was made (no we didn’t call Clarence).        Hubby, the hunter took his binoculars and his flashlight and went out to survey the roof of our bedroom.  He flashed here and there.  He    ‘binoculed’ here and there, but nothing was seen.  I watched and listened from the ‘inside’ and his light didn’t seem to bother our guest or guests.  They kept scratching, and banging around as tho it was mid-day.

So the hunter returned to bed, the cat returned to bed, and I followed.  Finally, around 4:30AM, the guest upstairs finally died, withered, got sick, gave up, was hit by his/her spouse, ate enough, or just left.  At 4:30AM in the AM who really cares.

Clarence was called  about 8:30 for an afternoon ‘check’….it is now 3:15 and no Clarence, therefore, no check.  Maybe Clarence melted in our ‘first rain of the season’….(previous blogs today).

Rats!!!!!!

AT&T ad

has anyone ever seen an ad so bad……I don’t know which is the worst….him for even thinking of marrying her, or the wife, who is a first class man hurter (as she stands triming her begonias, or whatever).  Let’s face it, he probably made the money for her to have the beautiful environment to grow her flowers. AT&T should be ashamed of themselves and remove the ad ASAP.  I thought I was the only one who was insulted until 3 of my friends mentioned it when they saw it on TV.

While you are taking your customer’s money and charging them ‘extra charges’ just because you can……please allow them the simple pleasure of at least a chuckle now and then.  Better yet, give them good service…

You are so bad!!

it’s rain’in!!!!!!

told ya…..told ya….it was forcasted and it got cloudy and it got cooler and yep, it sprinkled (that’s a good sign when there has been no measurable rain since May)…..and then it quit…   Dang, the sprinkles came, the cat got upset when it sprinkled on him (the nerve of Mother Nature) and then…then…then…the sun came out.  Yep again…the sun came out.  But my neighbors and I didn’t give up hope.  We prayed to the rain gods for more than sprinkles, and we went to bed with the hopes of Christmas Eve excitment……(We even woke up about 3 to see if anything had happened)

And then….and then about 8am, it sprinkled and then it quit, and then it sprinkled again, and then it quit.  And the clouds whizzed by, in a hurry to see  Las Vegas and St. George, and then it began.  I’d say about 11 it began.  Sprinkles turned into mist and visa versa. Then, an occasional driver turned his wiper on..but just once, cause we all hate to hear that dragging screech across the windshield when it isn’t quite wet enough….and then, and then, it started.  Yes, I’d call it a light rain, a spring rain in the fall, a rain that the plants long for in the heat of August, a rain that touches all the petals of late summer and early fall, a rain that gently moistens the hard creekbed without going directly to the sea.  Oh yes, it is  rain and we are just joyous.  It ‘s cool, and cloudy, and one wants to make a fire with real wood and just sit.

It’s a good day, it’s rain’in.     thank ya  Jesus
