        WHAT  I’VE  LEARNED

Today I waved goodbye to my daughter-in-law, my two grandgirls, their two dogs, a fish and a hermit crab…..knowing their love for pets, who knows what they will adopt on this leg of their vacation to Florida and then back to Shreveport.

I have learned that I am old…..an old lady married to an old man….and I hope writing this will help other old grandparents in their quest to be current in their kids and grandkids lives.  What was once a priority in my upbringing is now in the past and new ways of handling money, computers, book learn’in, music, and general lifestyle has opened my eyes to just that fact…..I’m way way behind and sometimes bossy about do’in this and remember’in that.

This past week has been full of adjustments on both sides and probably has been a really good learning experience for me and mine.   Patience was  needed and my grandgirls were always accommodating, even when inside they were shaking their heads with a number of thoughts running thru their heads.  I am proud of them for being kind.

Fish lived through the week, as did the hermit crab and left on their new journey with new the new owners.  Dogs and cats danced around each other and were becoming friends, even standing together when the ‘treat treats’ were passed out.

We did the July 4th parade and the fireworks, and they did it in style, being used to, however, the Marti Gras parade and staring at the home made tractor bed floats in our small town.  If they rolled their eyes, I didn’t see them, but I sure understood, the big time, small time change of pace.

I learned too I speak too soon with suggestions…..approaching bossy when it was not intended…..  After doing a poll with about 4 local friends and family, I see that they are just as confused as me…in certain degrees and we are all having a tough time with the constant phone/computer usage.   It is a new way and we elders have to step up to the plate and ‘get on with it’.  For what it’s worth…the Progressive Insurance ad about learning how NOT to be like your parents kept flashing thru my little brain, over and over again.

Our ‘suggestions’ and I truly mean that….not done with malice, caused bristling (on their insides) and I am so so sorry if my words caused anger or misunderstandings….My bad, for sure.  My ‘old ways’ kept leaking out of my mouth when I should have just kept quiet and listened and remembered my teen years.    Don’t any of you ‘in’ grandparents ever think that you have avoided those moments……and I hope this is a learning letter.

My girls are wonderful, they were kind, open, bubbly, liked to sleep late, ate sometimes and not others, liked pizza and rice and beans better than  fresh green beans….and that my old friends, is okay……We are grandparents, not parents, to this new batch of teens.

My special needs girl will begin community college in a few weeks and her excitement is very plain to see.  My 15 year old will be a 10th grader and will begin this new year with more school and less covid.  My daughter-in-law will be juggling this family hoping to go back to work, after the end of a 20 year marriage and lots of regrouping.  She will still be in charge of everyday stuff in the household, plus the special needs requirements only families with CP kids know of and live with.  The rest of this year will be months of adjustment, newness, and passions awakened by opportunity.  We are excited for them.  With change comes challenges but I know for sure they are up to it.

Our son will be returning from overseas in the fall and his life will be an adjustment too.  Coming out of the army life into the work/civilian/father role will be renewed and exciting as he continues on in a new relationship with a very nice girl.  

All this brings me back to the beginning……things we’ve learned ……and mostly it is to love with all your heart and soul,  forgive and forget moments in the past, understand that things do change and one must change too, regardless of age, or whichever side you might have taken in whichever hurtful situation that occurred.    In plain words….MOVE ON and  LOVE WITH PURPOSE AND FORGIVENESS………

Enjoy the moment together…..you are old, remember… enjoy the moment….you are not in charge of them, their parents are…..remember…….laugh at them and yourselves…..you are old, remember (the comment was made my perfume smelled like an old lady….(Dolce Gabbana light blue), for those of you who want to make a quick change….enjoy the TV shows they love….remember you are old (Wheel of Fortune)…and, above all……love the hugs and the fact that they have taken the time to be with you….regardless of how long the tender moments might be.

To all the people who welcomed social media of all kinds and now want to change to the rules to satisfy them……WHAT ON EARTH DID YOU EXPECT ?

To all the people who jumped on the internet bandwagon and now think it too intrusive…..WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?

To all the people who use the internet every day for communication and opinions and rebel against what they read…..WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?

To all people who have been sucked in to paying online and not receiving paper bills….only to find there are not only plenty of mistakes, but being hacked is an everyday situation in this world……WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?

The horse is definitely out of the barn boys and girls…..and the only way it can be curtailed is to relearn how to use your media choice. If you don’t want to be hacked or have your comments used and reused….stay off social media. If you don’t want your personal information sent to anyone anywhere in this world for a price, without your permission or knowledge…….relearn how to use or not use the computer.

Grubby little fingers…the social media companies…..are having a field day with your stuff…..they don’t care if you like or dislike what is on their website…..they only want the info you provide by going on the website and they are happy to send you more of the same. Your children happily engage in friends worldwide…..be sure they are friends….worldwide is pretty big and your name and address and bank goes a long way. Good chance the info will be stored until they can use it at a premium selling price and you won’t even know. It might be 10 years from now…..but it’s still good as it creates a database.

Just say’in…..it’s not the 50’s anymore and some day your freedom might depend on it….it may already…..

It’s time for another rate hike….don’t know if I’ve missed some, probably so, but here is the information you need…..

READ THAT LOVELY PART again….How well would it go over if your customers had that in their next bill….or, as a buyer, you had it in yours! Wait a minute….you, as a buyer DID get the quote in your bill….!

Remember, if you don’t read your bill….it’s YOUR fault…..what a shame….what a trust issue.

When news stories are like action movies, that’s what they are….one upsmanship (sp) does not a democracy make…..little people playing games just because they can…..right or wrong never enters the picture of leading and representing our country……Your vote is your democracy…..none of these people care most of the time if they are right or wrong…they just want their pictures in the paper and in the news. Only your vote will keep this country alive and well…..ask anyone who doesn’t have that right…..they weep for your lack of knowledge and the fact you don’t wish to know the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the history of leaders that brought us to today.

Play your games of chance, your games of high scores, and your belief of what you hear versus what you learn from history and the law…..and you will cry…..because you will lose your vote and then your life as you know it.

No matter where you are watching tonight…Washington DC is not pretty. However, we are okay folks…peeps–ladies and gentlemen. There are two problems occurring here and they are worlds apart.

States are in charge of the voting system in their state…not the US government. Each state handles their own way of voting…..I have seen voting done by pencil, pen, and computer….I have also seen the opportunity to illegally vote….Without a doubt, the states need to clean up their act by looking into who is doing what.

Mr. Trump is the victim in this situation whether he lost by 1 vote or 1 million votes….in that voting in certain states were not done properly. I don’t care if it was Mr. Smith down the street who we were voting for…if he lost because of poor voting practices and illegal voting, I would be on his side.

The election is over….judges have had their say, right or wrong…..because the wrong doing and the right doing with the state.

Now here is the sticky situation I cannot clear up…..who are all those people who came…..on planes, and in trains and automobiles? Did they come to back their president? Are they going to their state government and demand the voting system be made fair? Did they come to yell and scream and then go home to mama. Did they come to hurt others? Did they come to cause damage? Did they come to kill someone. Did they come because they liked the excitement…..are they haters of anyone who gets in their way?

My opinion…..all of the above….and for that reason, I am truly ashamed……where are their mothers, for heaven’s sake….or the person who pays their bills so they can flit from area to area do this….

Keep in mind world….Americans (99.9%) of us, are home watching TV and shaking our heads, and this includes as many parties as you want do think of. We are saying to ourselves…..’clean up this mess! Now! Trump is out and Biden is in…..I hope he is the best president ever and he better start quickly…. put up or shut up…..

Not everything that is said or written about is true….get a grip people….use the brain God gave you….read your newspapers and listen to opinionated TV AS opinionated TV….and know the difference….Read the Constitution and Bill of Rights….read the nation’s history and it’s former presidents……and when all is said and done….be glad you are an American

This will be short and sweet and maybe someone use or alter it a little for some badly needed help with restaurants.

I know, I know, people are missing hanging out and restaurants are hurting because no one is there…

On the other hand there are loads of companies, people, organizations, etc who are donating thousands to donate food for the needy.

I suggest the government send checks (amount to decided, but not nearly as much as they sent out to every or almost every American earlier)…….that the government send checks to restaurants in areas to be decided, to supply cooked meals for those who need it, for pickup. Those restaurants not chosen….would have their workers go to the restaurants chosen to help prepare and distribute the meals. People work…businesses stay open…and people eat. (and yes it needs to be common ordinary food, not $100 a meal food)

With the vaccines on the way, we should be able to overcome in the next 6 months provided that ALL consider it is their most important donation to their families and the world. You want to know why? Cause there is another pandemic of a different kind just around the corner that we know nothing about…and we have to come to terms with that…..

So let’s get smart and get healthy and love one another…..later peeps
